Dream of Dale DePue
Twenty years ago Pan American Medical Mission Foundation was a dream of one man, Dale DePue. He and a group of medical doctors and support personnel were having a medical clinic on Isla Holbox, on the north coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Kate, an anthropologist who was studying the Mayan women and living with them in their village arrived with a story of sick babies in San Cosme. They had no medical care and their babies were dying and would he bring just one doctor to the village to help them?
Dale packed up his whole team and drove the dirt roads to San Cosme the next day. They set up a clinic in the center of town and treated the people there. It was the first medical attention the villagers had ever had.
He walked around the village which was all jungle, pointed and said "We're going to build a clinic right there".
Lots of people laughed but God didn't. It took 15 years, many heartaches and a lot money but with prayers Dale's dream came true.
The clnic is a beautiful building right in the middle of the jungle. San Cosme and the surrounding villages now have free medical and dental care.
